America is waiting : Brian Eno/David Byrne:

Der Song: „America is waiting“ vom Album: „My Life in the Bush of Ghosts” ist repräsentativ für die kreative Schaffensphase der frühen 1980er Jahre von David Bryne. Gemäss Allmusic.com werden verschiedenste Rock/Folk/Pop-Elemente aus der ganzen Welt in den Liedern verarbeitet:” from radio talk-show hosts, Lebanese mountain singers, preachers, exorcism ceremonies, Muslim chanting, and Egyptian pop, among others.“[1] Nicht nur der Song „America is waiting“, sondern das ganze Album sind bahnbrechend für den Rock der 1980er Jahre:“ The songs on My Life in the Bush of Ghosts present myriad elements from around the world in the same jumbled stew, without regard for race, creed, or color. As such, it's a tremendously prescient record for the future development of music during the 1980s and '90s. »[2]

Erstmals in der Geschichte der Popmusik, wurden enorme Mengen an Samples verwendet und in die Songs eingepflanzt. „Rather than featuring conventional pop or rock singing, most of the vocals are sampled from other sources, such as commercial recordings of Arabic singers, radio disc jockeys, and an exorcist. Musicians had previously used similar sampling techniques, but critic Dave Simpson declares it had never before been used "to such cataclysmic effect" as on My Life.”[3]

Das Album wurde vollständig analog aufgenommen, was einen grossen Aufwand mit sich brachte und gemäss dem Motto: “Versuch und Irrtum” aufgebaut wurde:” the vocalists were recorded sometimes several decades before being re-appropriated by Eno and Byrne, and the voices often seemed to take on unanticipated qualities when placed in the new context.”[4]
